Executive Dysfunction

Track 01 · Identity

← Back to Identity

This is what I became.

I can solve complex technical problems. I can lead engineers, design systems, navigate incidents, and find failures buried several layers deep. But capability is not the same thing as ease.

As my career progressed, I moved farther away from the direct engineering work I loved and deeper into strategy, organizational problems, meetings, politics, and decisions made far from the systems themselves. I became responsible for the machine instead of working inside it.

The song is frustrated, aggressive, and intentionally conflicted. It is proud of what I built. It is angry about what the work consumed. The central tension is simple: I built the machine. Now the machine owns me.

Lyrics

Verse 1

Brain runs parallel, thoughts in a swarm Fourteen open channels, still detecting the storm One packet in the static, one crack in the form I can smell bad architecture before the outage is born I read the stack trace like scripture Every failure leaves a signature I can find the flaw buried six layers deep While the room trades smiles and quietly disagrees I can trace every thread, every service, every line But I can’t read the room when the room lies Say what you mean, put the truth on the screen Don’t call it alignment when you’re killing the dream

Pre-Chorus

They made me the answer They made me the name Every impossible problem Eventually came I carried the fire I stabilized the flame Then they handed me a title And took me out of the game

Chorus

Executive dysfunction In a room full of executives They speak in circles, sell disruption I make the broken functional Give me pressure, give me failure Give me something real to fix I can stabilize a thousand nodes But I can’t debug your politics Executive dysfunction Every meeting multiplies I can read a stack trace like scripture But I can’t read the room when the room lies

Verse 2

I was root in the basement, black-screen glow Now I translate technical truth for the executive show Built the platform, built the team, taught the whole thing to grow Now I spend all day explaining what the engineers already know Roadmaps, forecasts, colors on slides I want logs, hard numbers, something verified They say, “Circle back”—I say, “Who decides?” Consensus without ownership is cowardice disguised They call me strategic, I feel strategically numb Every rung up the ladder takes me farther from the hum Of the fans, of the keys, of the work getting done I became the one they needed Then they took away the fun

Bridge

Don’t tell me the system is failing I know every reason it bleeds The problem was never the hardware The problem is what leadership feeds You reward every silence You punish every warning Then act surprised by the fire When the dashboard turns red in the morning

Breakdown

YOU BUILT A CULTURE WHERE THE TRUTH NEEDS PERMISSION YOU CALL IT ALIGNMENT I CALL IT SUBMISSION I BUILT THE MACHINE NOW THE MACHINE OWNS ME I BUILT THE MACHINE NOW THE MACHINE OWNS ME NO ROOT ACCESS NO REAL CHANGE NEW TITLE SAME CAGE

Verse 3

Don’t call me cold I’m processing the flood Every word has seven meanings And none of them are enough I feel everything at once I just don’t perform it on command So I build things that protect you That is how I understand Hyperfocus built the kingdom Burnout came to take its fee You loved the way my brain worked Until it stopped being convenient for the company

Final Chorus

Executive dysfunction In a room full of executives They speak in circles, sell disruption I make the broken functional Give me pressure, give me failure Give me something real to fix I can stabilize a thousand nodes But I can’t debug your politics Executive dysfunction I see through the alibis I can read a stack trace like scripture And now I see the room when the room lies

Outro

I built the team I built the trust I built the systems You said we must I solved the failures You couldn’t see I built the machine Now the machine Answers To me
